国际互联网协会28日在荷兰马斯特里赫特向中国清华大学计算机科学与技术系教授吴建平颁发了“乔纳森·波斯塔尔奖”。该奖项是国际互联网界的最高荣誉,而吴建平也是第一位获此殊荣的中国科学家。
颁奖仪式在正于此间举行的第78届国际互联网工程组织大会上举行。国际互联网协会主席琳恩·阿穆尔女士在颁奖致辞中说:“吴建平教授积极推动了中国互联网技术进步和发展,并且对全球互联网发展产生了重要影响。”
阿穆尔说:“20年前,他就认识到互联网的重要性和影响力,及其在中国未来社会进步、技术发展和经济增长中所起到的关键作用。他带领团队持之以恒地努力工作,先后建成世界上规模最大的中国教育和科研计算机网(CERNET)和世界上规模最大的纯IPv6试验网CNGI-CERNET2,在互联网体系结构设计和管理、路由和交换、真实IP寻址和过渡技术方面作出了许多贡献。”

“获奖不仅是我个人的荣誉,更是国际互联网界对中国互联网快速发展和技术进步的肯定和表彰,”在28日获颁国际互联网界最高荣誉“乔纳森·波斯塔尔奖”后,清华大学计算机科学与技术系教授吴建平在接受新华社记者专访时说,“中国已经成为一个互联网大国,我更期待中国能够早日成为互联网强国。”
“我从上世纪70年代末期开始进行互联网技术的相关研究,那时的中国面临着国际上的技术封锁,我们的研究举步维艰。”回想起当年,吴建平不无感慨,“但就是在那时,中国科学家就已经决定应该发展自己的技术,要有创新,而不只是简单的模仿”。
作为国内互联网的主要开拓者之一,吴建平主持完成了“中国教育和科研计算机网(CERNET)示范工程”,并将它建成了世界上最大的国家学术网。他先后主持完成了20多个国家大型科研项目和工程,更成为下一代互联网标准IPv6的主要发起者和推动者之一。在他的领导下,中国下一代互联网示范工程CNGI-CERNET2主干网已经成为世界上最大的纯IPv6互联网。
“现行版本号为4的互联网协议‘IPv4’已经面临越来越多的问题,例如在移动互联网和网络安全等方面,特别是它的地址资源即将枯竭,”吴建平说,“而下一代互联网标准IPv6则能有效地解决现有的诸多难题,并为互联网技术未来的发展提供新的动力。”
“回顾自己30多年的工作经历,我觉得作为一名科研人员首先需要坚持,坚持自己的科学理想,”吴建平说,“其次应该要团结,没有一个好的团队,我很难取得点滴进步;而最后,也是最重要的,应该是创新,没有创新精神,只能单纯地成为模仿者。”
“互联网发展到今天,它的重要性早已不言而喻,其地位也无可取代,”吴建平说,“而在我看来,这是因为互联网具有两个最重要的‘DNA’,一个是‘向下’,它能够兼容所有网络和各种电子设备;另一个则是‘向上’,它始终是为用户应用自下而上开发的技术平台。”
“中国互联网的发展能够在短短十多年来获得国际学术界的认可,不仅仅是由于科研人员和社会各界的努力奋斗,更得益于中国改革开放以来的快速发展和进步,”吴建平说,“我相信随着中国的发展,中国将为国际互联网发展做出越来越多的贡献。”

The Jonathan B. Postel Service Award is an award named after Jon Postel. The award has been presented every year since 1999 by the Internet Society to "honor a person who has made outstanding contributions in service to the data communications community."
The first recipient of the award was Jon Postel himself (posthumously). The award was created by Vint Cerf as Chairman of the Internet Society and announced in "I remember IANA" published as RFC 2468.

On 29 July 2009, the Internet Society announced that the Jonathan B. Postel Service Award for 2009 was presented to CSNET (the Computer Science Network), the research networking effort that during the early 1980s provided the critical bridge from the original research undertaken through the ARPANET to the modern Internet.

On 19 November 2008, the Internet Society announced that La Fundación Escuela Latinoamericana de Redes (EsLaRed) is the recipient of the 10th Anniversary Jonathan B. Postel Service Award. The award was presented for EsLaRed's "sustained efforts to bring scientific, technical, and social progress in Latin America and the Caribbean through education, research, and development activities on technology transfer".

Newly elected ISOC Chair, Brian Carpenter presented the second Jonathan B. Postel Service to Scott Bradner during a Plenary session of the INET 2000 conference in Yokohama, Japan. Scott was unable to be present during the ceremony - as usual he was unselfishly working on Internet standards issues elsewhere in the world! Scott has been a virtual omnipresent individual in IETF activities for as many years as anyone can remember. 1999 Jon Postel
Internet Society trustee Vint Cerf presented the Society's first Jonathan B. Postel Service Award to Jon Postel, for whom the award was named. The award was accepted by Lois Postel, Jon's mother, at INET'99. In her moving acceptance speech, Mrs. Postel reminded the crowd that it was up to them to ensure that the Net's tradition of open standards and open processes endure "because it's the right thing to do."
