Frederick W. Nichol编辑本段回目录
Frederick W. Nichol -- who was born in Ottawa, Ontario, on March 8, 1892 -- began his IBM career in 1914 as secretary to Thomas J. Watson, Sr., who was himself newly-hired as the first general manager of the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company (renamed IBM in 1924). Nichol had earlier served as Watson's assistant secretary at the National Cash Register Company, beginning in 1909 at the age of 17, and Watson brought Nichol with him to CTR. Nichol remained Watson's secretary until 1917, and then went into the U.S. Army (rising from private to major) during the final year of World War I and into 1919.
Nichol held various positions in IBM and served as assistant to IBM's president before being appointed a vice president in 1933, and a director and general manager in 1935. He remained as a general manager until 1944, and as a vice president and director until 1946. He was a member of the executive and finance committee from 1935 to 1946.
Frederick Nichol died on October 27, 1955.
