Robeli J. Libero was an IBM vice president, and president and general manager of IBM Latin America.
The following is the text of an IBM biography published in March 1994.
Robeli J. Libero joined IBM Brazil in 1963 as a data processing systems engineer trainee in the Belo Horizonte branch office, where he successively held the positions of systems analyst, manager of the data services operations center, salesman and in 1968, branch manager.
He was transferred to IBM Brazil Headquarters in Rio de Janiero in 1971, where he acted as assistant to the general manager for one year. In 1972, he became North District Manager. This marketing unit was responsible for IBM operations in Rio, Brasilia, Minas Gerais and all other Northern and Northeastern states for IBM in Brazil. From the last quarter of 1974 through 1976 he was director of personnel and during 1977 he was director of DP [data processing] operations. In February 1978, he became general manager and chief executive officer of IBM Brazil. On May 1, 1979, he additionally assumed the position of president, IBM Brazil, a position he held through June 1986.
In August 1986, Mr. Libero was named vice president and general manager of line operations for the Latin America Division of the Americas Group in Mount Pleasant, New York. He was named Group Vice President and President of the Latin America Division in October 1986, and became president of IBM Latin America in April 1988. In February 1990, Mr. Libero was appointed an IBM Vice President and in 1992 he became a member of the IBM Corporate Management Board.
Mr. Libero earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the State University of Minas Gerais in Brazil in 1961. He is chairman of IBM Latin America's Board of Directors and serves on the Board of Directors of the Council of the Americas, Americas Society, Brazilian Cultural Foundation, and is a member of the Brazil-U.S. Business Council.
