鉴于KIM-1作为一款很纯粹的早期廉价PC,即便参照完整配置让它重装上阵,它也不过是片按了块6502处理器以及1KB内存的电路板,其东家MOS Technology公司此外还开发了6502处理器,不过在1975年的时候,这样的条件已足以让狂热的技术爱好者们对计算机的世界展开探索。
也许正因为如此,KIM-1卖绩颇佳,而购买者之后又通过加装键盘、磁带存储器、打印机以及视频显示器等使之成为一套成熟的系统,而在1976年当Commodore公司收购了MOS Technology后,KIM-1也跟着摇身一变成为其Commodore(海军准将)计算机系列的首款机型,KIM-1在eBay网站上也有出售,但要是你实在找不到也没关系,完全可以参照相关说明书(详见www.baltissen.org/htm/buildkim.htm)自己动手打造一台,而在(www.genedorr.com/software/)上则有可运行在Palm PDA上的KIM-1模拟器软件供玩家下载。

MOS 6502是1975年由MOS科技所研创的8位元微处理器。当年6502刚问世时是当时功效最强的CPU,且价格只有大型业者(如Motorola、Intel)相近产品的六分之一甚至更低;且除了Zilog公司的Z80外,6502几乎快过多数业者的相近产品,进而激起一系列的的电脑专案[1],并在之后的1980年代带来一场个人电脑的革命。MOS科技仅授权两家业者能相容研制6502,即是所谓的“第二供货源”,此分别是洛克威尔国际公司(Rockwell International)与Synertek公司,更之后才有更多的业者获得相容研制的授权,并仍持续在嵌入式系统的市场中供货。

The KIM-1 in my collection came with an expansion bus and a memory card. It is, unfortunately, not working at the moment.
An ASCII terminal or video monitor could also be used through the serial port.
Data could be stored on a cassette recorder, or paper-tape reader - another abandoned technology.
Commodore eventually purchased MOS Technologies, and shortly released a KIM-1 that had the Commodore name attached, as seen below.
